Concerts with Conversation
Many artists on SFP's mainstage series appear at the Community Music Center in free Concerts with Conversation. These unique gatherings give local community members an opportunity to hear exceptional artists in an informal setting and talk with them about their work. Audiences of all ages and backgrounds share in these enthusiastic performances.

During the 2006–2007 Season, the following artists will be giving these concerts, from 6–7 pm:

Salons at the Hotel Rex
Hotel Rex. These informal, after work events last just one-hour, and drinks may be purchased in the hotel bar before each concert. The first Salon of the 2006–2007 Season features the Marcus Shelby Quintet's tribute to the heroes fo the Harlem Renaissance, painter Romare Bearden and poet Langston Hughes.

Meet the Artist
Composer/pianist Thomas Adès, whose astounding career is often compared to that of Benjamin Britten, shares insights into his creative process in a conversation with Bay Area journalist and pianist Sarah Cahill.

Dance/Screen
Dance/Screen is a series of films about dance, featuring the work of companies appearing on SFP's mainstage dance series, as well as dance films by other international artists. A new season of films begins with a focus on contemporary dance from Israel, including Batsheva, on Oct. 24.


Special Workshops
Occasionally, SFP collaborates with artists to present workshops or seminars designed to enrich audiences’ experience with the performing arts. Two notable recent examples are the contemporary music workshop with violinist Midori in March/April 2006 and the series of amateur master classes with soprano Barbara Bonney.

In April 2006, KQED’s arts program “Spark” captured scenes from the master class, not to mention interviews with the participants and Barbara Bonney’s deeply felt remarks about what the experience means to her as an artist.
